چکیده

The velocity and mixing field of two coaxial jet configurations has been experimentally characterized by means of hotand cold-wire anemometry to investigate the effect of the initial conditions on the flow development, and to determine the leading processes in the “mixing transition” of the two streams. Amongst the possible operating conditions, four configurations with different inner and outer jet bulk velocity pairs (Ui, Uo) have been spatially characterized in terms of velocity and mixing field covering a region where 0.5 ≤ ru = Uo/Ui ≤ 3 with two different separation wall geometries, namely a sharp and a thick separating wall. For high velocity ratios the difference between the two geometries appears small and inside the experimental accuracy. On the other hand, for nearly unitary velocity ratio and with the thick wall configuration, the presence of a strong wake instability increases the interpenetration between the two streams enhancing the mixing process.

Numerical investigation of thermal mixing of shear thinning fluids in one-way opposing jets

In recent years, impinging streams have received increasing interest for their high efficiency in heat and mass transfer. This numerical study was conducted to investigate flow and heat transfer characteristics of one-way opposing jets of non-Newtonian fluids. Effects of Reynolds number impinging angle, momentum ratio and flow behavior index on mixing index were evaluated. The results showed im...

Numerical Analysis of Opposed Rows of Coolant Jets Injected into a Heated Crossflow

The mixing characteristics of coolant air jets with the hot gas exiting the gas turbine combustor’s primary zone is of major importance to the combustor exit temperature profile. In the present work, a three dimensional numerical simulation on the basis of the finite volume method was developed. The aim was to investigate the penetration and mixing characteristics of directly opposed rows of co...

Numerical Simulation of Free Surface in the Case of Plane Turbulent Wall Jets in Shallow Tailwater

Wall-jet flow is an important flow field in hydraulic engineering, and its applications include flow from the bottom outlet of dams and sluice gates. In this paper, the plane turbulent wall jet in shallow tailwater is simulated by solving the Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes equations using the standard  turbulence closure model. This study aims to explore the ability of a time splitting method ...

Heat Transfer under Double Turbulent Pulsating Jets Impinging on a Flat Surface

In this study, the numerical analysis of turbulent flow and heat transfer of double pulsating impinging jets on a flat surface has been investigated. The unsteady two-dimensional numerical solution for two similar and dissimilar jets was performed using the RNG k-ε model. The results showed that the RNG k-ε model has more satisfactory predictions of the Nusselt number distribution. Comparisons ...

CFD Analysis of Supersonic Coaxial Jets on Effect of Compressible Spreading Rates

Prevailing high-speed air-breathing propulsion systems invariably banks on coaxial jets which plays a vigorous role in stabilization of flames and combustion emission. Coaxial jets have applications in supersonic ejectors, noise control techniques and enhancement of mixing. Coaxial jet nozzles regulate spreading rates by developing virtuous mean flow and shortening primary flow potential core l...
